Derby branch
This branch is headed by John and Elizabeth
Fairholm. They married in 1831 at Radford, Nottinghamshire, but had
moved to Derby by 1840. Elizabeth's maiden name was Carrington. They
had three children. Their only son, William, married four times and
had six children. Of his sons, William (jnr) remained in Derby and
Ernest moved to Rugby. His third son, Joseph, had a career in the
army, serving in India and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and eventually
emigrated to Canada. The descendants of Joseph are the most numerous
in this branch - partly as a result of his seventeen children. William
(jnr) is the great grandfather of Peter H. Fairholm and the great
great grandfather of Roger H. Fairholm and Alison J. Fairholm. We have
other present day descendants for William (jnr), Ernest and
Joseph. They are scattered across England and Canada and are also in
Scotland. John was a stockinger when he
arrived at Derby and later a silk glover and a labourer. When he died in
an accident in 1875 he was a ganger on the Midland Railway. William
worked in the metal industries and his job descriptions include
metalsmith, plate metal worker and iron fitter.
So far, we have 504 people on this tree.
